The Bastide Saint-Louis and Place Carnot
The lower town, its grid of streets, its cafés and lively Place Carnot.

Founded in the 13th century on the left bank of the Aude, the Bastide Saint-Louis forms Carcassonne’s “lower town”. Its grid plan is easy to explore on foot, from Place Carnot and its fountain to the churches, covered market and shopping streets.
The atmosphere
Café terraces, shops and markets make the Bastide the everyday heart of Carcassonne life. Market days and locations can be checked with the tourist office.
From our holiday rentals
